Here are the latest party and wedding trends for 2009! If you have been watching any of the hit wedding shows on WE TV than you already saw the latest trends in weddings. Shows like Wedding Central, Plantinum Weddings and Amazing Wedding Cakes to name a few have brought the hot new ideas right into your living rooms. Of course most of us cannot afford the weddings that we see on television but what we can do is get great ideas that we can bring to our own weddings.

Wedding Cake for 2009

Hexagonal and Square shaped tier cakes are the new round or heart shaped cakes of the past.

Colors

Black and White cakes are popular for 2009 along with blue colors such as turquoise and aquamarine. Hues of pink are coming back not only in cakes but also flowers and bridesmaid dresses.

Cupcakes

Towers of cupcakes started showing up at receptions instead of traditional wedding cakes over the past several years. And they will continue to show up in 2009 but with a twist. Instead of round cupcakes you will see towers of small wedding cakes in geometric shapes.

Stripes

Stripes are the new polka dots. Whether your colors are black and white or yellow and blue stripes will add a theme to your event.

Caribbean Inspired

Caribbean-inspired décor and bright color combinations of orange, yellow, red and turquoise will be one of the favorites in 2009.

As I mentioned above not only will pink show up in wedding cakes but you will also be seeing it on the bridesmaids, chinese lanterns and floral arrangements. Shades of pink like fuchsia and magenta are some of the colors you will see across the county in 2009.

Victorian

Romance is back. You will see the traditional Victorian wedding theme, complete with horse and carriage, vintage wedding gowns and royal inspired décor come out this year.

Weekend Weddings

More and more couples are making their wedding a weekend affair. Weddings are a chance for families to celebrate together and that is just what weekend weddings let them do. Friday night the party starts with welcome cocktails and pool parties or backyard BBQ’s at the family home. Saturday is the wedding and Sunday they send their guests off with a brunch again at the family home.

Eco-Friendly

Many couples are falling in love with the idea of going green on their wedding day. There are so many more options out there now when it comes to wedding invitations to the wedding dress that going green is becoming a lot easier to do.

More and more wedding couples are letting their personalities and themes shine through on their wedding day by offering signature drinks instead of full bars. Signature drinks can be named for the theme or by something that shows the couples love like maybe the place where they met for the very first time. Whatever name you give your drink, have it reflect who you are as a couple.

Candy buffet bars are all the rage these days. Brides and Grooms are setting up full tables of candies for their guests to take home. Candy buffet bars can include gourmet chocolates, hard candies, gumballs and rock candy on a stick. The choices for the candy buffet bars can match the colors of the wedding party or the season the wedding is taking place. Candy canes, peppermint and gourmet chocolates are a big hit during the holiday season and springtime brings out an assortment of jelly beans. There are no set-in-stone guidelines to follow with the selection here. Just pick the candies that you and your groom love. With those standards, your candy buffet is bound to be a big hit!

Movie Night

More and more teens are turning to the big screens to entertain their friends. Teens are heading to the local video store to pick up movies for a night in with their friends. With all of the cooking shows on now they are also putting on their chef hats to whip up theme snacks for their chosen movie, think dinner and a movie and you have your theme.

Wii Party

It seems like almost every house has the hottest new gaming system. But instead of staying home to play Wii teens are flocking to each others houses. Move the furniture throw in the pizzas and lets start playing.

Club Scene

MTV brings the club scene front and center with their hit TV show My Super Sweet 16 party. And just as I said with the hit wedding shows most of us can not afford parties like that but we can get a lot of great ideas to use at our teens next party. You can have a lot of the same elements that are on the show but just on a smaller scale. Set up a smaller scale bar with assorted soda and a signature mocktail inspired by the guest of honors personality. Serve up sliders and finger food, clear an area for the dance floor, turn the music up and let’s get this party started.
